India is Patented for the use of “Basmati”. The long grain aroma is unique to the Basmati rice grown here. However, that is only for Traditional Basmati Rice. The Hybrid varieties developed by PUSA such as 1121, 1509 and PUSA rice are long grain but do not have the aroma of the Traditional Basmati Rice.
